Fire fighters already responding to calls for down trees, wires and flooding.

With Hurricane Sandy now impacting Long Island, including Dix Hills, the Dix Hills Fire Department has already taken several measures in an effort to be prepared for emergencies that may arise during the story.

According to Larry Feld, chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Dix Hills Fire District, the department conducted fire apparatus and equipment checks, readied generators and fully stocked firehouses with supplies, food and other items.

“On Sunday, we began mobilizing our members and employed two dispatchers to answer calls,” he said. “Since Sunday evening, we have been responding to fallen trees, downed wires, flooding and other emergencies, and will utilize our high water vehicle where needed.”
