Students Make Bacteria Glow
The Dolan DNA Learning Center (DNALC) is the world's first science center devoted entirely to genetics education.
Students from West Hollow Middle School went to the Dolan DNA Learning Center DNALC and participated in a program to genetically engineering bacteria to glow (Glowing Genes). They learned about genetically engineering bacteria with the GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) gene for bioluminescence. This laboratory experience gave the 6th graders a hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of molecular biology.
