Half Hollow Hills High School West was the scene Saturday morning of the seventh annual Alec's Run, a four mile street race in memory of 16-month-old Alec William Nelson, who was tragically killed when he was accidentally backed over with an SUV by a grandparent, who, due to the vehicle's rear blind spot, was unable to see Alec before it was too late.

The race is meant to raise awareness of this danger, which claims the lives of more than 100 children a year.

Watch our video for a full report from the race.

If you have photos from Alec's Run that you would like to share, send them to ryan@patch.com and we'll post them to the site.

I Have had the pleasure of knowing Bill Nelson for over 30 years and can tell you that its is an honor and a privilige to volunteer for this cause. It is a testament to he and his wife and family to take what is a nightmare and turn it into an opportunity to give . The sense of community and to see old friends and make new ones is a legacy that Alec would be proud of. Big thumbs up to everyone who came out for a beautiful day.
