Who Says You Can't Come Home Again?

Though life at school is enjoyable and independent, it is always great to come home each year for the holiday and embrace in tradition and good times with family.

No college student can deny that he or she loves coming home during Thanksgiving break and eating delicious home-cooked food, spending time with old friends, and partaking in good old family fun.

This was my third Thanksgiving break at home, and it was definitely the most enjoyable one I've had so far. I wouldn't consider myself a homebody, but when I am home for break I find that I devote this time to my family.

Shopping, eating, and just watching movies together, this time is always spent relaxing and enjoying each other's company. Though I talk to my family members almost everyday, it is great to catch up and be with each other. It definitely beats any phone call or text message, especially when it is accompanied by my mom's delicious cooking.

Being home for Thanksgiving break is also a great vacation from the demands of school. It is nice being independent and on my own schedule when I am away from home, in Boston. But junior year has proved to be a difficult one. I couldn't have enjoyed this break more.

Being away from the busyness of my schedule and the city of Boston for five days was rejuvenating (but also fattening, unfortunately). I have always appreciated Thanksgiving and the togetherness that it brings. Having Thanksgiving at my house has become a tradition in the past few years, and I am very grateful for that because my mom prepares a great meal!

As the semester is coming to an end, I will soon return home once again for my winter break. Unfortunately I will not be home for Hanukah, as it is very early this year. And shortly after my return home in mid-December, I will be leaving to study abroad in London for the spring semester.

While I am away, I will miss a few Jewish holidays that I usually enjoy spending with my family. However, I have very fond times to look back upon, including this past Thanksgiving.

Things change at home when I am away at college. Some of my family members were not present at our Thanksgiving feast this year, which is a sad reality that my family and I had to deal with. I am so lucky to know that some things do not change, though. I know that I can always come home to hugs and love from my family. They will always provide for me the best hospitality there is.

The number-one thing I will always be thankful for on Thanksgiving is the fact that I am able to spend it at home, and enjoy traditions and good food with the most important people in my life. Nobody tells me that I can't come home!
