SWIMMING WITH SHARKS TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR THE YMCA OF LONG ISLAND’S FREE TEENS CENTERS -- A POSTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO THE STREETS

Long Island, NY – On August 6, 2013, YMCA of Long Island President & CEO, Anne N. Brigis, and YMCA of LI Chairman of the Board and Benefactor Scott Sammis dived with the sharks at the Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center to raise awareness for the Y’s FREE Pre-Teen & Teen Center Program across Long Island. Thirty-five pre-teens and teens from the YMCA Summer Day Camp, as well as several YMCA Board Members attended the event cheer Anne and Scott on. “It was a tremendous opportunity to now only showcase the importance of our pre-teen and teen program, but also a chance to show youngsters the importance of embracing the challenges before them. And believe me – sharks are a challenge!” said Anne Brigis.

The YMCA Pre-Teen and Teen Center Program offers youth–both members and non members- access to the Y’s state-of-the-art facilities across Long Island on Friday and Saturday evenings during the school year FREE of charge (membership at the Y is not necessary to participate. Strengthening the foundations of the community is at the heart of the YMCA of Long Island’s mission, and giving pre-teens and teens a safe and structured environment to socialize, and explore their interests is aligned with the organization’s cause.
