Half Hollow Hills Sees Nearly 9.5 Inches of Snow

Half Hollow Hills saw an estimated 9.5 inches of snowfall, with totals in nearby Huntington reported by trained spotters at the National Weather Service.

Snowfall totals across Suffolk County reached highest numbers in Selden and North Babylon, with 14.5 inches. Orient saw 12.2 inches and Jamesport, 13. Riverhead woke up to 9.6 inches and Hampton Bays, 10 inches.

In Nassau County, snowfall totals reached 12.1 inches in Massapequa. Port Washington woke up to 11.5 inches, while Lido Beach saw 10.5 inches.

Frigid temps will continue through Thursday, according to Tim Morrin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office at Upton.

On Wednesday morning, temperatures hovered around seven degrees, with a wind chill index of minus 14. Highs on Wednesday are expected to reach 15 degrees and Wednesday night, expecting a low of one degree above zero with wind chill values as low as minus 11.

Thursday will dawn partly sunny with a two-out-of-ten chance of a snow shower in the afternoon, Morrin said. The high on Thursday will only reach 20 degrees, with wind chills as low as minus 11. 

Frosty temperatures will blanket all of Long Island and New York City equally, according to the NWS. 

"It's an equal opportunity air mass," Morrin said.
