Aug. 20: Adult Summer Reading Club

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. There are only two more days left to sign up to play Fury Flag Football for this fall season (grades K-12.) Games take place at Five Towns College. Visit www.hillsfury.com to register.

2. Join the adult summer reading club at the  and have a chance to win a grand prize raffle. Pick up your complimentary welcome kit from the Adult Reference Desk. Each time you finish a book, enter it online at http://hhhlibrary.org/src.php. Entries will automatically be entered into a weekly raffle. A grand prize will be raffled off at the Dream Desserts party on August 23 from 7-8 pm (DH). The winner must be present.

3. A bill by Legis. Jay Schneiderman to reduce the number of extra utility poles on county roadsides has advanced. The bill requires all double poles to be removed within a 90 day period from notification to the utility. Those left standing after 90 days would be subject to a monthly $1,000 fee.

4. Huntington Town Councilman Mark Cuthbertson testified before the New York State Senate Investigations and Government Operations Committee on Aug. 8 to examine Boating Safety. He stressed the need for the state to draft legislation that would require basic safe boater training for all vessel owners.

5. Bring an umbrella to work today. Forecasters predict showers during the day and isolated thunderstorms tonight with a high of 73 degrees.
