Aug. 8: Public Hearing on Melville Fed-Ex Building

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. The Town Planning Board will hold a public hearing tonight, concerning a request to tear down the current Fed-Ex Building, and replace it with a six-story office building with two restaurants and a drive-thru bank. The meeting starts at 7 p.m at , 100 Main St., Huntington, NY 

2. Enjoy a summer evenings with at the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center, 7:30 p.m.

3. Head down to the Dix Hills library today for a FREE movie: "War Horse." Rated PG-13, "War Horse" is about young Albert who enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry. Albert's hopeful journey takes him out of England and across Europe as the war rages on. No registration is required.

4. Capital One Bank has selected the HHH Community Library as one of 25 organizations to participate in its first Financial Literacy Challenge on Long Island, an awards program designed to encourage money management best practices among kids and adults throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  Watch out for the The First R newsletter for programs in the upcoming months for adults, teens and children.

5. To help plan ahead for potential disasters, Sen.
