Aug. 9: Drop in Art for Ages 3 & Older

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. Kids ages 3 and older can enjoy arts and crafts at the today, starting at 10 a.m. Dress accordingly for messy materials. No registration is required.

2. Do you know an outstanding volunteer in the Half Hollow Hills community? The Long Island Volunteer Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for its 11th annual Hall of Fame inductees. Click here for a nomination form.

3. Speaking of volunteers, good samaritans are needed for a breast cancer hotline. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. The next five-session training cycle will be starting at the end of September 2012 at the Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. For more information about the training and to schedule an appointment for an interview, call Caroline Mulcahy at 516- 877-4315.

5. Students can sign up now to take a practice S.A.T. exam in a test-like enviroment at the Dix Hills library on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Students will receive a detailed analysis of their performance in the follow-up session on Thursday, Aug. 23, 7 p.m. Register at the library, online here or call 631-421-4530.
