Cactus Salons Provide Free Makeovers to Family Service League Clients

Cactus Salon in Dix Hills plays host to a good cause.

On January 28, employees of Cactus Salons gathered at their Dix Hills location to cut, color, and style for a good cause.

More than 60 clients of Family Service League, many of whom have completed job training programs and are trying to re-enter the workforce, arrived for “makeovers."

Lisa Jamison, FSL Division Director for Family Services, stated: “The women here today consider going to a Salon a luxury usually beyond their means. Thanks to the generosity of Cactus Salons, they will leave here today feeling pampered, stylish, attractive; with new hair styles and higher self-esteem.”

Not only did the clients receive new hair styles; they also chose from a selection ofdonated accessories such as scarves, handbags, jewelry, and more. Cactus makeup artists were also there to give makeup application lessons. In addition, many local restaurants donated food for a dinner buffet enjoyed by all.

Family Service League, established in 1926, is a Long Island non-profit human services organization providinga safety net for people in need. Serving 50,000 people annually, addressing some of the most prevalentand pressing human needs challenges facing Long Island communities, FSL delivers tangible help and crisisintervention across a spectrum of service areas including mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, job training, computer literacy, trauma counseling, at-risk youth, family and senior citizen support services. Inaddition, FSL operates pre-school learning centers, universal pre-K programs, camp and Suffolk County’s onlyCommunity School. In all, FSL operates over 50 programs at 23 locations in Suffolk County, including five Family Centers in Huntington, Huntington Station, Bay Shore, East Yaphank, and Riverhead.
