Dix Hills Man Places First in Horse Racing Contest

Resident wins $13,500 in Palace Crown handicapping race out of 90 entries from around the tri-state area.

Paul Shurman of Dix Hills is one lucky guy.

Out of 90 entries from all over the tri-state area, Shurman won the grand prize at the Nassau OTB Palace Crown horse handicapping contest last week. He took home $13,500.

He and the other players accumulated points based on the payoffs of their winning selections on the day’s races from Saratoga and Monmouth Park.

Joseph Cairo Jr., President of Nassau OTB said he was pleased to announce the winners. Each entrant paid $300 to participate, making the contest's purse $27,000.

Another Long Islander took second place. Robert Ramirez of Holbrook, earned $5,400 in prize money.
