Heavy Rain, Winds Knock Out Power in HHH

About 500 LIPA customers in the dark, severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 9 p.m.

The first wave of heavy rain to hit Half Hollow Hills has more than 500 residents without power Wednesday evening. 

The Long Island Power Authority is reporting 517 customers in Dix Hills and 23 in Melville are without power as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Long Island Power Authority's Outage Map.

The National Weather Service has changed its  to a severe weather watch for western Suffolk County through 9 p.m. Wednesday. A flood advisory and hazardous weather outlook are in effect.

The largest power outages are in the southern tip of the hamlet, just west of Robert Moses Causeway.

LIPA crews have been assigned to the outtage areas with full power restoration expected around 9 p.m., according to the Outage Map.

Residents with a power outage or downed wires can report these to LIPA by calling  1-800-490-0075 or texting OUT to  myLIPA (695472), which requires pre-registration.
