Huntington Remembers the Lost of 9/11

Fire departments, schools and town honor those who died in terror attacks.

Those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 were remembered in a variety of solemn ceremonies around Huntington Wednesday.

The Town of Huntington held a low-key ceremony at Heckscher Park to honor the 43 residents.

While Supervisor Frank Petrone and Town Councilmen Mark Mayoka, Susan Berland and Mark Cuthbertson read off the names, veterans placed roses in a urn and saluted. The roses were later given to the relatives of the dead.

Firefighters from departments around Huntington stood in an honor guard, and one firefighter tolled the bell for each name.

Members of the Huntington Manor Fire Department saluted those lost, including Peter Nelson, a department chief and a member of the FDNY.

Students around Huntington attended ceremonies at their schools.
