Jan. 19: Fire Safety Time

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. Congratulations to the 10 businesses honored Wednesday night by the Melville-East Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce. Winners included Joan and Bill Diehl of Minuteman Press in Melville. Joan was named the Moxxie Network's "Mentor of the Year."

2. It's time at the today at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 2-5 are invited to create a fire prevention craft, participate in activities and take home a firefighter's hat, and listen to some stories. Register at the library or call 631-421-4535.

3. Want to cook like a real Italian chef? Learn from the pros today at the . Chef Richard returns to teach you how to from store bought milk. Everyone will take home their own fresh ball of mozzarella cheese. Bring a medium size mixing bowl to class. Adults only. Register at library or call 631-421-4530. $5.00 (Nonrefundable) payment is due at time of registration.

4. Victoria Eckenrod from Dix Hills, a student at Binghamton University will be competing this month in the national finals of PricewaterhouseCooper's (PwC's) Extreme Games xTax competition. Good luck Victoria!
