July 23: Food Drive Challenge

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. Two non-profit groups filed a federal lawsuit against Suffolk County this week because of cuts made to the municipality's child care program, which is subsidized by the state. Read more about it here.

2. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services this week said five new mosquito samples collected in the county tested positive for West Nile Virus, raising fears of the dangerous disease spreading in the county. So far, 15 mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus including those in South Huntington, Northport and Dix Hills.

3. The Town of Huntington is participating in the Island Harvest , an island-wide competition between municipal swimming pools to see which municipality can collect the most donated food. The food drive runs through August 12, 2012 at the Dix Hills swimming pool.

4. Children can enjoy a  today at the Dix Hills library. In the show, a book inspires Mr. Mouse to build a rocket ship. Join the the exciting times as Mr. Mouse explores the galaxy accidentally, on his way to the moon during this puppet show. Register for this free puppet show at the library, online here or call 631-421-4530.

5. A FREE art exhibit is open to the public. The 'Personal Vision' 2012 Members Show Monday through Friday 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Art-Trium Gallery, located at 25 Melville Park Rd, Melville, NY.
