May 1: Cell Phone Use While Driving Arrests

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. If you are reading this in your car, stop. Put the cell phone down. The NYS Police Department announced on Monday that its Long Island troopers issued 204 tickets last past week for cell phone use and texting while driving; 172 of them were cell phone violations, and 32 were texting while driving violations. 

2. Hear from a Holocaust survivor this week. Shoved onto a cattle-train to Auschwitz at age 13, Leo Zisman defied all odds and survived. Hear his tale on Thursday, starting at 7 p.m at The Chai Center in Dix Hills. Parents and children 11 years and older are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be provided. Suggested donation is $5 per person. Sponsorship is $36.

3. The Twelfth Annual Huntington Tulip Festival will take place on Sunday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heckscher Park in Huntington. for the full schedule of events.

4. , A Cappella ensembles and Long Island Sound Chorus will perform tonight at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. Tickets are $10.
