May 30: Town Board Approves Gay Pride Festival

Here are five things to know about today in Half Hollow Hills.

1. The Long Island Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Services Network will hold a  in  June 9. The Huntington Town Board unanimously approved the festival last week. The event will feature live performances, beer and wine tasting and a food court. The festival will coincide with annual Pride Parade next month.

2. What does it take to lead the world in education? The Half Hollow Hills Teachers' Association, along with Suffolk's Edge Teacher Center will present a symposium on education reform, screening the documentary, "The Finland Phenomenon." A panel of experts, including scholars from Harvard and Columbia University will hold a discussion after the screening. Half Hollow Hills High School East, 7-9 p.m.

4. The Art League of Long Island presents “," currently exhibiting at the through June 17. Of the 65 works chosen for the exhibit, the following were selected for awards by the exhibition juror, renowned portrait artist Burton Silverman. this competition features figurative works in all mediums, including photography.

5. The , for those ages 50 and up, will be hosted at Half Hollow Hills High School West this weekend. Compete in badminton, basketball, bocce, golf, racquetball, swimming, tennis, a triathlon and more. Click here to register.
