Melville Teen Receives Canine Companion

Alex Obert-Thorn talks about his new best friend "Odelia," an assistance dog he'll be working with.

Alex Obert-Thorn, 15, of Melville was recently united with his new best friend "Odelia," a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever, from Canine Companions for Independence at its Summer 2011 graduation in Hauppauge.

The non-profit organization trains and provides assistance dogs for persons with disabilities other then blindness. Obert-Thorn spent two weeks training with Odelia at their North East Regional Headquarters in Medford. Tricia Wright from Mattituck raised Odelia for two years, she says it's wonderful that she will be helping him. Check out the video to see what he had to say about training to work with Odelia and how she will make an impact in his life.
