Music, Art, Theater, Coin Show and a Farmers Market

Don't know what to do this weekend? Why don't you try some of these events.

Here is a sampling of events happening in the Dix Hills/Melville area this weekend, January 22 and 23. For a complete listing, please browse the on the Dix Hills Patch site.

  1. G&G's Long Island Indoor Winter Farmers Market comes to Sweet Hollow Hall located on Gwynne Road in West Hills County Park in Melville on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here you will find fresh and healthy, high-quality food, grown and/or produced in the New York region including produce, meat, fish, bread, baked goods, pickles, wine and cheese plus more, as well as live music all morning.
  2. Social Security closes this weekend at the located at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack. This hilarious comedy depicts the intergenerational struggle between a sassy aging mother and her bossy married children, as she tries to carve out a new life for herself and her new love. The show is Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15-$22 and can be purchased at the box office or by phone at 631-462-9800.
  3. Come see the on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Dix Hills branch of the HHH Community Library. This performance will celebrate the 200-year anniversary of brilliant romantic composer Franz Liszt. Music from 19th century will mix with Latin American rhythms. Other compositions by F. Liszt, N. Paganini, F. Chopin, C. Gardel, and A. Piazzolla will be performed.   4. The on Deer Park Road continues the exhibit, "" Susan Kadish and Christopher Delloiacono, both Long Island-based artists specializing in three-dimensional representations, will be displaying their recent works in the League's Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery on Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is open to the public free of charge.
  5. The will be held this Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Catapano Engineering Hall on Route 110 in Melville. Come buy, sell and trade collectibles, stamps, coins, currency, jewelry, gold and silver, as well as have them appraised for free. Free admission and free parking.
