From Commack: Man Critically Injured in Commack LIE Crash

A crash closed the Long Island Expressway eastbound between Exits 52 (Commack Road) and 53 (Sagtikos Parkway) Friday morning.  

According to police, Leon Parks, 23, of Coram, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima eastbound on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 53 when his vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned at 4:46 a.m.

Parks was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses told police that Parks was driving at a high rate of speed. 

From Northport: Police: Drunken Northport Woman Seriously Injures Passenger in Crash

A Northport woman was arrested Thursday after police said she was driving while intoxicated after her passenger was seriously injured in a crash in Centerport early that morning.

According to Suffolk County police, Elizabeth Damilatis was driving a 2011 Volvo SUV westbound on East Main Street when she lost control of her vehicle, which struck a utility pole on the north side of road in front of 375 East Main St. at 3:51 a.m.

The passenger in the SUV, Thomas Martin, 36, of Huntington, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

A Huntington school was reincarnated Wednesday, coming back to life as the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet school, three years after the building was closed to classes. 

Dignitaries, parents, children, a congressman, teachers, Board of Education members and the real-life Jack Abrams were on hand to celebrate the founding of a school devoted to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

From Babylon: Babylon Woman Hit by a Car Critically Injured

A Babylon woman was critically injured after being hit by a car while crossing Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon Monday night, police said.

According to police, Cerice Caprio, 32, was attempting to walk across the road in front of Buffalo Wild Wings, just north of the Southern State Parkway, at 9:06 p.m. when she was struck by a 2008 Hyundai Elantra that was heading southbound on Deer Park Avenue.
