The Northport East Northport Drug and Alcohol Task Force is hosting a town hall meeting Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Northport Public Library to address the growing drug abuse epidemic in the region.
This interactive meeting will cover gateway drugs, raising awareness of addiction and concrete prevention strategies.
The evening’s moderator is Anthony Ferrandino, Northport High School’s drug and alcohol counselor. He will shed insights into valuable statistics and answer questions.
Panelists include two local young adults who offer a glimpse into an addict’s experiences and the road back to recovery. In addition, a parent of a young person in recovery will share perspective. Irene McLaughlin, principal of Northport High School, will offer experiences about students’ journey through high school. And Steven Pinto, director of operations at the Life Center in Huntington will speak about his background in helping adolescents and families in crisis from the effects of drug abuse.
