Photos: Thunder and Lightning Strike HHH

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

Local photographer Asia Lee caught this shot of a lightning bolt over Melville on her iPhone this afternoon just before the rain came pouring down on Half Hollow Hills.

The National Weather Service has listed Long Island under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. as heavy storms move east.

Drivers are warned to use caution as the storms are flooding local roads. A photo above shows deep pockets of water along Colonial Springs Road in Melville.

As a result of weather-related signal problems, the Long Island Rail Road is experiencing systemwide delays. Riders are advised to plan on extra time for travel and listen for station announcements.
