Puppet Show, Black History Month, Library Seminar and More

Here are some of the top events going on around town today.

Here is a sampling of some of the events happening in Dix Hills/Melville today, Thursday, February 24. For a complete listing, please browse the events calendar on the Dix Hills Patch site.

  1. Enjoy a free multimedia presentation from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the  about Cocos Island. It will be a journey of discovery to the island that inspired both Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" and Michael Crichton's "Jurassic Park." Register at 631-421-4530.
  2. Take the kids to see a puppet show and make their own puppet craft at noon at Club Mom. Kids age 5 through 8 can also partake in kids yoga at Club Mom, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call them at 631-659-3939.
  3. Celebrate at Barnes and Noble at 7 p.m. There will be a special free storytime that takes a journey to celebrate freedom, courage and peace. Call 631-421-9886.
  4. Want to do something outside? Try . The Ice Skating Rink is open Sunday- Friday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission, Monday thru Friday is $7 and skate rentals are $3. Admission, Saturday and Sunday is $10 and skate rentals are $4. Children under 5 skate for free. Skate rentals for TangerClub Members is FREE with your TangerClub identification. (631) 667-0600.
  5. Also at the Tanger Outlets daily is . All you need to bring is you, your child (6 weeks and up) and the stroller. So be ready to sweat, be ready to make some great friends and be ready to have some fun!
