As part of our 2012 Long Island Summer Guide, each Wednesday we're spotlighting the major beach and outdoor events coming up across the Island.
Here's what's on tap in the coming week:
Margaritaville
The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce presents its annual concert, “An Evening In Margaritaville" on Friday, August 10, from 7-10 p.m. in Islip Town Parking Lot #4 (known as Over South Dr.) right off of Gillette Avenue in Sayville, directly behind the South Main Street businesses. The lot will be closed to vehicles beginning at 7 a.m. Admission is free, courtesy of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce.
Featuring the Ed Travers Band, playing Jimmy Buffet favorites all evening! Parrot Heads - enjoy the festive Best Parrot Head Hat & Outfit Contest, and take chances to win at the Chinese Auction, and 50/50 Raffle. Also, support the troops at the new "Cheeze Burger in Paradise" BBQ! On Site Support will fire up their grills early in the afternoon and will start serving food at 5 p.m. Delicious hamburgers, hotdogs, french fries, and beverages will be available. Proceeds will go to supporting our troops. Bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy this fun filled evening of music, and dance the night away!
Long Island Philharmonic
The Long Island Philharmonic performs at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on Friday, August 10, at 7:30 p.m. No formal so concertgoers are urged to bring folding chairs or blankets; free.
Alive After Five
The third Alive After Five Friday Night Free Summer Street Fair Concerts takes place in Patchogue on Friday, August 10 from 5-9 p.m. The event, around the Main Street and North Ocean intersection, features four live bands, outside dining, craft and informational vendors, food vendors and children’s activities. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Sound to the Cove Swim
The Sound to the Cove swim will be Saturday, August 11, from 5a.m,-noon. STC is a 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 5K, or 10K swim in Long Island Sound finishing on the beach at beautiful Morgan Park in the City of Glen Cove. The event begins with registration at 6 a.m (5 a.m. for 10K swimmers) and concludes by noon after brunch, an awards ceremony and check presentations to beneficiaries. Whether you are a returning swimmer or looking to do your first open water swim, we welcome you to the SAA family and thank you for helping us "Make Waves to Fight Cancer." For more info, click here.
