Try One of These Fun and Trendy Classes

There are a lot of interesting classes to join around town, whether alone or gather some friends.

1 – HOT YOGA

YogaFlex - 639 Commack Rd., Commack – 631-462-9642

YogaFlex offers Classic Hot Yoga, Barkan Hot Yoga and Barkan Hot Vinyasa. Classic Hot Yoga is geared to all levels of ability including beginners. It includes a series of 26 yoga poses done in a heated room of 100-105 degrees, which offers increased flexibility and the loss of additional calories. Barkan Hot Yoga adds additional poses for an even greater range of motion, while Barkan Hot Vinyasa adds an additional twist to the hot yoga class with Vinyasas or flowing poses. 2 – BALLROOM DANCING

Learn the steps, styles and techniques of dancing and increase your self-confidence, have fun and form new friendships in this 1700 square foot dance studio. Learn the foxtrot, the hustle, the cha-cha, the Texas two-step, country line dancing, the waltz and more. Classes are offered for beginners to advanced students, as well as private and group lessons. Social dance parties are held throughout the year as well, the next one being August 28th from 1-4 pm. This will include door prizes and a Sunday Brunch for $15 per person. 3 – ZUMBA

Zumba is a fun dance workout done to the beat and rhythms of Latin and upbeat music. The Half Hollow Hills Library has upcoming sessions given by certified Zumba instructors. Sessions include Saturday mornings at the Melville branch from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for 6 sessions from Aug 13 to Sept. 24 ($24), Thursdays at the Dix Hills Branch from either 10-11 a.m. or 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. for 8 sessions from Aug 18 to Oct 27 ($32), and Thursday evenings at the Melville branch from 7-8 p.m. for 6 sessions from Sept 15 to Nov 3 ($24). The Art League offers classes for both adults, teens and children in many areas including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, ceramics, computer graphics and more. 5 – KICKBOXING

Tiger Schulmann’s Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts - 1926 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport – 800-620-3971

Located in the Elwood Shopping Center, Tiger Schulmann’s kickboxing classes not only teach self-defense but they provide an intense cardio workout, burn calories and improve energy levels and self-confidence. This workout, which combines jabbing, punching and kicking, with hand, knee, elbow, and foot techniques, will also increase one’s muscle, strength and flexibility.
