What You Can Do With The Kids This Weekend

Looking for something to do with the kids this weekend? Here's a list of activities sure to keep the whole family entertained.

This Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., White Post Farms hosts "Pirates and Princess" weekend. Kids can dress up like their favorite pirate or princess and enjoy the Kings of the Coast Pirate Show and Treasure Hunt at noon and 4 p.m. Also included in the $12.95 per person is admission to the animal farm and petting zoo, unlimited use of the bouncer playgrounds, picnic areas, free hayrides, plus kids get a free pirate hat or tiara with their paid admission.

Saturday morning at 11 a.m., Borders in Farmingdale celebrates the new PBS kid's series, "The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!" There will be stories, games, stickers and more. Please note this is not a costumed character event.

Old Westbury Gardens will teach kids a "green" lesson at noon on Saturday when they are told the classic Dr. Seuss story, "The Lorax." The Lorax tries to warn the Once-ler that he cannot abuse the environment.  The kids are educated on the interdependence of plant and animal habitats and the effects of human activity on the environment. Admission is $10 adults, $8 seniors, $5 ages 7 to 12 and free for kids under 6.

Sesame Street Live "Elmo's Healthy Heroes" comes to Nassau Coliseum on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Join the Sesame Street characters in this 90 minute Broadway-style production as they try to teach Cookie Monster that he has to eat his cookies in moderation and get more nutrition in his diet. Tickets are from $18.50 to $103.50 and can be purchased online at www.nassaucoliseum.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

Have any Bakugan fans? Toys-R-Us on Route 110 in Huntington hosts their third interactive Bakugan Battle League Event. You may join the action, whether you're a newcomer or participated in past events, on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Bring your own Bakugan Battle Brawlers with you and help determine how the story unfolds.

For older kids and adults alike, this weekend is the season opening of the Bayville Scream Park, located at 8 Bayville Avenue, Bayville. Get a jump start on Halloween and visit the Bloodsworth Haunted Mansion and four other terrifying attractions including Uncle Needle's Funhouse of Fear in 3-D and Curse of the Zombie Pirates. The park is open Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at http://www.bayvillescreampark.com/tickets.htm or on-site the day of your visit. For the younger kids, The Bayville Scream Park hosts Kids Not-So-Scary-Days both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring less scary versions of their popular attractions as well as the pumpkin bounce, pumpkin patch, the spooky Halloween Express Train and Hay Ride. They can also get great Halloween snacks at the Creepy Cafe like candy apples, cotton candy and popcorn and there are still all the regular attractions of the Adventure Park like Spooky Pirate Miniature golf all decorated for Halloween.
