Writers Workshop, Rapunzel, Drop-in Art for Kids

Here are some of the top events going on around town today.

Here is a sampling of some of the events happening in Dix Hills/Melville today, Wednesday, February 23. For a complete listing, please browse the events calendar on the Dix Hills Patch site.

  1. Drop by the  with your kids, ages 3 yrs to fifth grade for "." Between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. your kids can stop by and make a project with lots of supplied materials. No registration is required.
  2. Emilia Rabito Baer presents a free seminar on Renoir this afternoon entitled "" at the at 2:30 p.m. See examples of the artist's work that celebrate the happiness and joy of life. Register by calling the library at 631-421-4530.

  3. A special matinee has been added this afternoon for the children's production of "" at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online, at the box office or by calling 631-261-2900.

  • The presents the free film, "" tonight at 6:30 p.m. This unrated documentary follows the events after the death of art collector Albert C. Barnes as a power struggle develops over control of his $25 billion dollar collection of paintings by Renoir, Cezanne, Matisse, Van Gogh and other masters. No registration is required.

  • At Barnes and Noble on Route 110 this evening, author Marissa La Rocca will be leading a fun and exciting series for aspiring writers. Weekly sessions will include guided imagery and other exercises using poetry, short stories and other written works to encourage writers to express themselves. This workshop is free and is at 6:30 p.m.
