The Art League of Long Island is pleased to announce a collaborative exhibit with the Long Island Craft Guild in its Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery from May 15 through June 12, 2011.
Titled Reclaiming Eden, the exhibition explores, in many dimensions, the loss and restoration of our earthly paradise. On view are paintings, drawings, etchings, photography, ceramics, glassworks, and jewelry selected by Cornelia Seckel from entries by members of both the Craft Guild and the Art League.
A reception will be held on Friday, May 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, and a gallery talk titled "Reclaiming the Beach" will take place on Sunday, June 12, at 2:00 PM.

The artists in this exhibition were challenged to interpret the meaning of the Garden of Eden in contemporary terms. "Eden" is variously defined as paradise, the first home of Adam and Eve as described in Genesis, a place of pristine or abundant beauty, and a state of perfect happiness or bliss. "Reclaiming", implying loss or damage, is defined as reforming, rescuing or restoring. While the environment is a prominent theme in this exhibition, other aspects of the meaning of Eden are imaginatively addressed.
