Opening Reception: “From the Ashes”, a Ceramics Art Exhibition Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

The Suffolk County Art Leaders Association (SCALA) in partnership with the Art League of Long Island presents “From the Ashes”, a ceramics art exhibition commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

The opening reception will take place August 28 from 2 p.m.– 4 p.m. at the Art League of Long Island.

A group of art educators from Suffolk County, under the direction of raku artist and Art League Faculty member, Gina Mars, have created a series of ceramic pieces symbolizing the regeneration, restoration, and recovery since that tragic day. The raku process uses a combination of fire and smoke to transform the ordinary surface of a clay piece into a work of art with dramatic bursts of color and texture.

The exhibit will be on display starting August 29 at the Phoenix Gallery in Bellport and then finally to B.J. Spoke Gallery in Huntington.
