Poetry in the Village

Local poets Barbara Ann Branca and Vicki Iorio will read from their work at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14 at the Babylon Public Library, 24 S. Carll Avenue, Babylon Village, as part of the "Poetry in the Village" series sponsored by the Babylon Village Arts Council.

The scheduled readers will be followed by an open mike. This event is free.

Barbara Ann Branca has been writing and performing since childhood. At the Babylon Library she will read some of her autumn poems about love, falling leaves and honoring veterans. She considers her poetry creative nonfiction based on her lifelong passions for music, history and the natural world. She has read original works on public-radio stations WSHU-FM and WLIU-FM and at Cornelia Street Café, Bowery Poetry Club, Huntington Poetry Barn, numerous libraries, and Walt Whitman Birthplace where she took first place in the Long Island Poetry Collective's 2010 "Super Poem Sunday" contest.

Barbara Ann recently read original poems as she led a tour of Poets' Walk on the Hudson River, and is currently working on a collection of "watershed"-based poetry. Some of her poetry can be found at http://barbrann.tumblr.com/.

Vicki Iorio has been writing poems since the time she could pick up a crayon. After a long hiatus involving marriage, raising a daughter, divorce and raising a daughter she picked up the computer crayon again. Vicki's work can be seen in Hell Struck and Crooked, Mobius, Poetyr Magazine, Performance Poets Literary Review, Poetry Bay, Troubadour and various online publications. She is in the process of writing a chapbook, Poems from the Dirty Couch. Vicki can be seen reading her poetry at various Long Island and New York City venues.
