Film Examines LIRR Massacre on 20th Anniversary

Documentary to show at Cinema Arts Centre.

Cinema Arts Centre will show the documentary LIRR Massacre on Dec. 7, the 20th anniversary of the murder of six commuters.

Filmmaker Charlie Minn will speak at the 2 p.m. showing. In the documentary, he interviews victims, witnesses, law enforcement and U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy,  who lost her husband in the attacks. Her son was severely wounded.

Convicted of the massacre that occurred as the eastbound train pulled into the Merillon Avenue stop was Colin Ferguson, a Jamaican immigrant who shot a total of 25 people. He is serving a sentence of 315 years and eight months to life after a trial in which he represented himself after firing his two attorneys, William Kunstler and Ron Kuby.

The documentary runs for 90 minutes. Minn, who grew up in Manhassett Hills, lost a high school classmate that night.

"It was the worst crime in Long Island history and the worst crime in New York history before 9/11," he said.

Tickets are on sale at $10 for  members, $15 for others.
