Last Chance: Art After Dark

Enjoy art, music, wine and cheese tonight at the Art League of Long Island.

We've seen hundreds of events come and go in the community, but how often does one pass you by that you wish you hadn't missed out on? That's where we come in. Each week Half Hollow Hills Patch will post a quick reminder about the events, activities or important tasks whose deadlines have come.

The party starts when the sun goes down at the in Dix Hills tonight.

Once a month, the gallery leaves its doors open from 7-9 p.m. for its Art After Dark event, a captivating evening of cultural enrichment.

Art, music, wine and cheese set the tone for this sophisticated and stimulating evening, but tonight is your last chance to experience it until next month.

The event is a series of special art exhibits with demonstrations by well-known local artists.

Tonight's demonstrating artists are Sungsook Hong Setton and Garry Nichols.

According to the Art League, Sungsook sees her artwork as akin to music, poetry, and dance because her brush strokes tell a story in rhythm through time and space. She is, in a sense, a performance artist, especially as Asian water-ink requires great spontaneity and energy. Her subjects range from the organic to the abstract—from reflections on nature to her innermost thoughts as she listens to music. Nichols' specialty is his epic-scale paintings and related charcoal and pastel drawings. His work ranges from the semi-abstract to the abstract mode, retaining recognizable imagery within his plastic pictorial space.
