Photo Exhibit and Scholarship Contest

Experience "A Beautiful Day in Half Hollow Hills" at the Dix Hills library.

The Melville Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Half Hollow Hills Library will present a month-long phtography exhibit and scholarship contest premiering February 3 at the , highlighting photographs of local master photographer Asia Lee.

Lee, a regular contributor to Half Hollow Hills Patch provides the popular “Photo of the Day” series.

“Our community is the best place on earth to live, work, study and relax. The Melville Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to join Half Hollow Hills Library, AOL/Patch and the students of Half Hollow Hills to put a focus on the great wealth of beauty we are surrounded by in our local neighborhood. What better way than to utilize the popular photographic art of Asia Lee that we see each day in Patch to engage students to share their appreciation through their essays,” said Michael DeLuise, President of the Melville Chamber of Commerce.

Each photograph presented in the exhibit has been highlighted as a "Photo of the Day" on Half Hollow Hills Patch. The 16 pieces will engage students from the Half Hollow Hills school district to participate in a writing contest to inspire an appreciation of local beauty, culture and communication. College scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 will be awarded to three winners of the essay contest.

Student essays will be judged by a distinguished panel including The Honorable Frank Petrone, Supervisor of the Town of Huntington; Larry Levy, Executive Dean, National Center for Suburban Studies Hofstra University; Amanda Linder, Editor, Half Hollow Hills Patch.

The public is invited to a kickoff reception Friday, February 3 at 7:00 pm at the Dix Hills branch of the Half Hollow Hills Community Library located at 55 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills.
