Bagels, Bagels, Everywhere

Where do Dix Hillians go for an awesome bagel? Not a simple question.

A Californian once told me, "Bagels from Long Island are different than bagels from California.  Like accents, they are both distinctly their own. In California, I have to toast my bagel before I eat it.  The bagels are light, spongy and more bread like. On Long Island, bagels are denser, have a nice crust, and are still moist and chewy--toasting is not necessary."

I'd have to agree with that assessment.

So where should you go if you want to get a delicious bagel in Dix Hills? After taking a poll, there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut winner.

It really depends on where you live and how far you want to travel.

If you live in the southeastern portion of Dix Hills or are heading down Deer Park Avenue, you should stop at Steve's Hot Bagels and Bakery, at 2142 DPA, which straddles the border between Dix Hills and Deer Park.

If you are closer to Commack or are traveling up Commack Road, you may want to visit Dix Hills Bagels East at 215 Commack Road in Commack.

Also in Commack is the very popular Bagel Boss, in the Mayfair Shopping Center on Jericho Turnpike. There are several Bagel Boss locations on Long Island, with another at 1941 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport. Almost directly across the street is another popular bagel destination: First Class Bagels, at 1922 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport.

As you head further west, you may want to take a sojourn at Dix Hills Bagels at 703 Old Country Road, in Huntington Station. The furthest west anyone recommended going for a bagel was at Bagel Biz, at 443 Walt Whitman Road in Melville.

All in all, you have to admit, we do love our bagels here. And we also like to have a little variety.
