UPDATE: Bank Headquarters to Close

First National was acquired by Bridgehampton bank in October.

The Melville headquarters office of First National Bank of New York will close. The move could cost 36 employees their jobs, though the company said it is trying to place workers elsewhere.

The state Labor Department was notified Tuesday of the closing, under provisions of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification rules that require certain employers to give employees 90 days notice of layoffs of more than 25 workers.

James Manseau, executive vice president at Bridgehampton, said it was working on finding new positions for the 36 people in other parts of the company.

First National, headquartered at 538 Broadhollow Road, was acquired by Bridgehampton National Bank in October, Dans Papers reported. At the time, the merger was expected to give Bridgehampton 26 branches. First National also has a branch each in Massapequa and Merrick.
