Company's first New York branch located on Route 110 just south of the Long Island Expressway.
A new bank has opened its doors in Melville
Long Island Business News (subscription required) reported that BankUnited has come to Long Island, opening its first New York branch at 445 Broadhollow Road in Melville.
The Miami Lakes, Fla.-based company is run by John Kanas, who serves as president and chief executive officer. He is no stranger to Long Island, having previously run North Fork Bankcorp.

According to information from its website, the company has nearly 100 branches in Florida and was recently ranked 10th in the Forbes 2012 list of Best Banks in America. The company plans on opening additional branches on Long Island in the near future.
