Melville Chamber Encourages Workers To Carpool

Fall program designed to get local employees to drive to work together begins in October.

The Melville Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses along the Route 110 corridor to have employees participate in the 511NY Rideshare program that is designed to get more local residents to carpool to work

Running from October to December, participants who move from driving alone to work to carpooling and completes as few as four carpool roundtrips during one calendar month will receive a $25 gift card to Target (limited to one per person). In addition, the company with the largest number of carpoolers participating will win a free luncheon.

According to chamber of commerce officials, carpooling leads to savings in money and fuel for participants adding that even a small increase in the number of folks driving to work together helps reduce congestion and parking problems. Other benefits include cleaner air by reducing vehicle emissions.
