OPINION: Gas Station Lines Impact On Small Business

Long lines mean no parking on Port Washington Boulevard.

Dear Hinck's Delicatessen Customers,

We would like to apologize for the lack of parking at our store over the past few days. The gas lines for local gas stations have created traffic situations on Port Blvd. and Willowdale Ave. over which we have no control. We, and our customers, have attempted to have this situation corrected numerous times, yet to no avail. We will continue to voice our opinion over the upcoming days.

Thank you for your patience, and we hope that this will not disrupt your patronage.

Mary could you please explain why odd and even would make a difference?

This storm has been so expensive. It has already cost me a week of lost work. Then there are the generator, wood, extension cords, extra gas, and all the little things. Forget about the stress. I want the town to repay my losses for their ineptitude.

Well Fred, first I don't think it could hurt. Also, I have family in NJ and they said it seems to have eased things. The long lines are impeding businesses that they are blocking and we are using our police officers to direct traffic. Are they on overtime? Are we pulling them away from other important things?? Either way, you must try something.

There have been other stations open and others close and refill. both uptown and downtown. It is impossible to get out of town on Port Blvd with these traffice lines and truly unfair to the businesses on port Blvd. Hincks was one of the only places open before any power was restored providing egg sandwiches and hot coffee - when in need they are always there for us...we need to get their business back and get the traffic off of Port Blvd...this will also free up traffic in and out of town. Don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize this...

Mary I have never understood how having all the people go all the days is worse than having half the people go on half the days. I think a more effective way is to have people purchase a minimum amount. This will keep the top off the tank people out of line.
