Roast: A Sandwich House, a Hit, and Only Four Weeks Old

Melville's Route 110 corridor is "Roasting" something special.

Chefs Matthew Doyle and Joseph Cordaro prepare gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads in this brand new little gem tucked into a small strip mall on bustling Walt Whitman Road in Melville. Trained at the Culinary Academy of Long Island, Chef Doyle, previously of Blackstones Steakhouse and Spice Market (NYC), was busy in his immaculate new restaurant last night preparing their popular paninis made with all-natural whole roasted meats.

Their lunch and dinner menu seems simple but is well thought out, using fresh ingredients combined in exciting ways with more than ample portions and everything made to order.

The prices are reasonable and their offerings complete with combos (soup, salad, half sandwich, pick 2, only $7.99), which make for an easy and delicious take out for the family dinner. If you decide to eat at Roast, you are seated at stainless steel tables, making you feel as if you’re in a home kitchen with fresh green and white walls; and the food is served in little individually sized roasting pans.

How’s It Taste:  The contrast of the crunchy toasted ciabbata bread and the succulent and flavorful thinly sliced lean roast pork with melted smoked mozzarrella, onions, and garlic aioli is comfort food paradise.  The chopped cherry peppers adds just a little kick to the whole cooked sandwich experience.  The other paninis on the menu offer something for everyone and the wraps range from a Crabcake BLT to a Honey BBQ Grilled Chicken.

I was told that the Braised Brisket Grilled Cheese and House Meatballs sandwiches are very popular.  The portions are large, so if you want a lighter lunch or dinner meal, order the salad or soup combo with a half sandwich or panini. My son had the half Oriental Sesame Chicken Salad with his panini and can’t wait until we return to Roast again.

Sides:  Sweet Potato Tater Tots ($2.75) are a must-have; with their sweet and salty taste,  you’ll be fighting over who gets to eat the last one.

Roast also offers local lunch delivery ($25 minimum) to businesses in the area from 11 to 3 p.m.
