Paint the Mall Red a Success at Walt Whitman Shops

In support of American Heart Month, Walt Whitman Shops recently hosted the second annual Paint the Mall Red health and wellness event on Saturday, February 22, 2014.   Sponsored by North Shore-LIJ CareConnect Insurance Company, Inc., the free program promoted awareness of heart disease, the number one health threat to women in the United States, and educated the public about the associated risks and warning signs.  Participating health care providers dispensed expert guidance on topics including weight loss, holistic methods, sleep apnea and more.  Retailers from Walt Whitman Shops were on-hand as well.

As part of Paint the Mall Red, Board Certified Cardiologist and Lipidologist Dr. Perry Frankel from Advanced Cardiovascular Diagnostics performed heart screenings, including Carotid Doppler and Abdominal Aorta Ultrasound.  These tests were free to anyone who presented a valid insurance card.   Dr. Frankel and his staff screened 40 individuals, including a participant whose assessment showed that less than half of his heart was pumping correctly. “This patient was headed for heart failure or cardiomyopathy or coronary artery failure, possibly even death,” commented Dr. Frankel.   “As the individual was asymptomatic, this was an amazing discovery, as the issue can now be corrected.”

Participants visited with a variety of exhibitors including Dr. David J. Rogers – Take Shape for Life (weight loss); Dr. Sergey Kalitenko (holistic doctor); DeLiceful (lice removal/prevention); Adult Care Advisors (information on senior communities); Schlessinger Eye and Face (facial cosmetic surgery, Botox); Jim Ryan Talks (emotional health);  Neurological Surgery P.C. (brain and spine care); Long Island Speech (speech services); Chase Dental SleepCare (sleep apnea); North Shore Eye Care (ophthalmology practice) and Dr. Khaled Elbanna (weight loss and aesthetics).
