Make A New Year’s Resolution to Help Our Community!

How many times have you made a New Year’s resolution to “help those in need” or to “do volunteer work” in the year ahead? How many times did you try, but didn’t know where to start? This year keep that resolution, and really feel good about yourself, while helping your neighbors and friends in their time of need.

The Dix Hills Fire Department is looking for new members that want to help our community when emergencies arise. And taking that first step towards becoming a volunteer Firefighter or EMT couldn't be easier. You only need to meet a few simple requirements:

  • You must be 18 years old or older;
  • Your legal residence must be within the Dix Hills Fire District;
  • You must pass a free department paid physical exam, drug screening, and background check.

According to ex-Chief Richard Sorrentino, the DHFD’s Recruitment Officer, “Our department currently has a very strong and active membership, of about 160 members. But we’re always looking to grow stronger, by adding members who want to give something back to their community. If you meet the basic requirements, and you're committed to making a difference, we'll provide you with all the training, equipment, and professional development required to become a NY State licensed Firefighter or EMT.”
