“Because we understand the stress and strain caregivers experience and appreciate how much they give of themselves, we wish to honor someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty caring for an elder by naming that person ‘Caregiver of the Year’”, says Jennifer Cona, managing partner, GDGC. “Many caregivers go so far as to put their own lives on hold to perform the difficult and time consuming tasks of caring for a loved one. From being on call everyday, to moving in with an elderly parent to visiting a loved one daily in a nursing home, we’ve seen caregivers give so much, often for very little in return. We want caregivers to know that their selfless dedication is appreciated.”
According to a 2009 NYS Office of Aging study, 79% of the population is providing care to an older family member or friend and most caregivers are women.
