LIRR Cancels PM Rush Trains, Expects Service Disruptions Through Wed

Amtrak train derailment the culprit.

Buckle up, commuters.

The Long Island Rail Road is now warning of "significant adjustments" to AM and PM peak service through Wednesday.  It's all the result of an Amtrak train derailment on Sunday that blocked one of the East River tunnels, officials said.

As crews work to clear the equipment, assess and repair track and signal damage, commuters will feel the pain.  Approximately 20 eastbound trains from Penn Station will be cancelled and combined with other trains for the Monday evening rush.

The following trains on the Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch are cancelled Monday:

  • The 3:27 p.m. train from Penn Station due in Huntington at 4:33 p.m. Commuters will be accommodated by the 3:43 p.m. train from Penn Station to Huntington, which will make all combined stops.
  • The 6:30 p.m. train from New York due in Huntington at 7:32 p.m.  Commuters will be accommodated by the 6:35 p.m. from New York to Hicksville, which will be extended to Huntington.

On the Ronkonkoma Branch:

  • The 4:54 p.m. train from New York due in Farmingdale at 5:56 p.m. is cancelled. Commuters will be accommodated by the 5:01 p.m. train from New York to Ronkonkoma, which will make all added stops.

Westbound service to Penn Station will terminate at Jamaica at approximately 4:30 p.m.  NYC Transit will be honoring LIRR tickets at Jamaica for the E line to New York.
