Local Breast Cancer Coalition Unveils Pink Flags of October

Display at Good Samaritan Hospital commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The (WIBCC) for Long Island on Sunday unveiled its Pink Flags of October at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.

The display of 400 pink flags on the West Islip hospital’s front lawn along Montauk Hwy. is a first for the coalition. Lorraine LoMonaco, vice president with the WIBCC, brought the idea to the coalition, which then took the concept to hospital administrators, who gave their blessing.

Local residents interested in supporting the WIBCC’s flag display may do so by purchasing a ribbon that will be attached to a flag. The ribbon may be dedicated in the memory of a family member or friend who is fighting breast cancer or who has lost their life from the disease.
