Deer Park-North Babylon

A mother duck and her ducklings got a Mother's Day rescue from another mom on last Sunday. Fox 5 New York reports Janet Blair, a Dix Hills mom, became an animal rescue worker when she noticed a group of ducklings at the bottom of a sewer in Deer Park last Saturday evening.

Sachem

With the Sachem School District's 2013-14 budget vote just days away, supporters of the approved budget proposal have launched a Facebook page dedicated to promoting the budget's passing. The page, entitled "Vote Yes for Sachem School Budget May 21," launched on May 9 with semi-regular updates that include the district's budget facts brochure and the district's budget advocacy YouTube video.

Babylon Village

The Babylon School District Board of Education unanimously approved a new probationary principal of the Babylon Elementary School, effective July 1, 2013, during a public meeting on Monday evening.

The board voted to hire Jessica Kemler, who has spent the last five years as an assistant principal at Public School 182 in Jamaica, Queens. Kemler will start in the district with a yearly salary of $125,000.

West Islip

A Bay Shore man was arrested in West Islip Tuesday with 50 suspensions on his license, according to Suffolk County Police. 

Louis Newman, 52, was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after he was pulled over for driving "unusually slow" in the intersection of Udall Road and Bay Shore Road.

Lindenhurst 

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Pattern Crime Unit detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the men who have robbed multiple gas stations and convenience stores in Lindenhurst, Babylon, Deer Park, Dix Hills and Bay Shore.

According to police, during each of the robberies, two men armed with hand guns - a silver gun and a black gun - entered the businesses and demanded cash.
