News Nearby: Texas Roadhouse Opening Monday in Deer Park

A look at some of the top headlines from fellow Suffolk County Patch sites over the past week.

Deer Park-North Babylon

The wait is over: Texas Roadhouse will open next Monday in Deer Park.

Construction began on the steakhouse on Commack Road last May and was originally slated to open in October. However, the opening was first postponed when contaminated soil was discovered at the site.

Hurricane Sandy also stalled construction for weeks last fall. But there will be no more delays as the steakhouse's first location in Suffolk County–and second on Long Island–will be open for business at 4 p.m. June 17, according to the restaurant's managing partner Tony Martinez.

The project isn’t new as developer Jim Tsunis has had discussions in the past year with town planners about building a housing development on that lot, as well as a connecting lot, the site of the former Sayville Plumbing parcel off Montauk Highway.

Babylon Village

The Babylon Village Pool, located at the end of Fire Island Avenue South, will not be seeing cannonballs and splash fights next Saturday, as was expected, as work delays have forced the village to push back the opening day for the pool.

Located at the very end of the roadway in the Great South Bay atop a peninsula, the village pool was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy, with partial collapses to the pools and building damage throughout the property.
