Department of Transportation officials said the detours and closures are needed to perform a $5.5 million rehabilitation of the aging Pinelawn Road Bridge over the LIE in order to maintain its structural integrity and assure its continued reliability. Motorists are being warned in advance of the closings via electronic road signs but should plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
