Suffolk Police to Increase Patrols of Movie Theaters

Move comes in the wake of mass shooting at a Colorado theater.

Suffolk County Police officers will heighten security of movie theaters in light of a mass shooting at a theater in Colorado.

Here's the full statement released by the Suffolk County Police Department on Friday afternoon:

Due to this morning’s tragic movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, the Suffolk County Police Department will be increasing patrols at movie theaters in Suffolk County. All officers will make frequent checks of movie theaters in their sectors. Additionally, any calls of suspicious packages or persons occurring at large gatherings, particularly movie theaters, will be dispatched immediately. Suffolk County Police have no reason to believe that a similar incident will occur in Suffolk County, but the department is taking precautionary measures to ensure residents' safety.

More than 70 people were shot, with 12 fatalities, during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora. A 24-year-old man was in the theater's parking lot in connection with the shootings.

Nassau and New York City authorities have also increased patrols at movie theaters following the incident.

If they would stop making these sick movies maybe the sickos would stay home...

I seriously doubt that Batman or any other movie had anything to do with it....

@Kp: Agreed. If anything, the movies depict the vales of our culture, a never ending cycle of violence and vengeance. But it's easier to blame movies, video games, etc, than to take a long hard look in the mirror...

I think its a good idea to have police around the theatres. There are all kinds of issues they can address at the same time! RIP to all those who passed today, and speedy recovery to those hurt

What is so strange is that this guy appears to be perfectly normal planned this thing out for weeks in advance. This is a very strange act, and hopefully we will find ot why this normal type guy went nuts in this planned execution. So sad for the victims and their families.

Why would anybody trust and think somebody else should protect their family? You must protect YOUR family and do not count on somebody else.

Ranger? What does that mean? We should all carry weapons in public to combat the possibility of someone going on a shooting spree?

Glad he is in PA, yet he seems rather obsessed to continually post on the patch here......hmmmmmmm.. Maybe he is not so happy he left.

Johnny sir: Do whatever it takes to keep your loved ones safe. That is the MIN anybody should do. How YOU chose to keep them safe is up to you. If YOU want to carry "carry weapons in public to combat the possibility of someone going on a shooting spree", THAT IS YOUR CHOICE.

Mr. Walter Isaacs sir: We operate and commute between our Pa office and our Long Island office where we started the Business, and I am very sad about what HIGH TAXES has done to Long Island, and that is chase business away.

There were no movies when we had slavery, there were no movies when we pushed the Indians off their land, there weren't movies during the Trojan War, or when Lincoln was shot.....our movies come from reality. No movies when Jesus was hung on the cross...... The minds of our movie making masters get the ideas from what has happened and make it into a movie. Unfortunately there are many more humans that have no regard for human life, feelings, family etc. than the few humans that truly do. It's too late to change the world and movies aren't going to change either. :(

if someones going to shoot people, they're all ready sick in the head, a movie has nothing to do with it
