Widespread Power Outages Hit Huntington

LIPA reports 7,600 customers affected in Town of Huntington as high winds rip through region overnight.

Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Town of Huntington seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.

The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 7,600 customers were without power townwide as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, including 461 in Dix Hills and 35 in Melville. 

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.

A high wind warning is in effect for Suffolk County through 9 a.m. Thursday.
