Turning a Horrible Situation into Something Positive for Others...

Young CPA uses his tragedy to do good for others.

I admire people who experienced a tragedy in their life, but instead of dwelling on it, they turned it into something positive for others.  That's what attracted me to the NYBKW Charitable Foundation.   Josh Dubrow, a CPA with NYBKW (Nussbaum, Yates, Berg, Klein & Wolpow, a Melville-based CPA firm), told me his story.  His wife delivered a baby boy but he was born sick.  He told me that the nurses, doctors and the entire staff did everything they could for him, his wife and his son, but they couldn’t save his son. I was so moved. He took this negative experience and turned it into a positive experience by forming the JAD Fund (in memory of his son) and raising money for the NYBKW Charitable Foundation to purchased life-saving equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Cohen's Children's Hospital (part of Northshore-LIJ). They raised the necessary $50,000 and now, they are doing it again.  This time, Josh and the entire NYBKW firm is trying to raise $100,000 for a family room in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  "This room will enable families to have a brief escape from the day to day hospital environment and enable them quality family time," said Dubrow. Barry Berg, partner in charge of the NYBKW Charitable Foundation, is spearheading the Spring Benefit, which is being held on June 5, at Jewel Restaurant & Lounge in Melville. It will consist of an exclusive, gourmet four-course wine pairing dinner hosted by Executive Chef Tom Schaudel. Tickets for the event are $250 and can be bought by calling Rob Napolitano at HJMT. His number is 631-393-0220 or you can email him at rob@hjmt.com. There are so many ways that people can deal with horrible situations but when you take something so tragic and you do something good in return, it reminds me how valuable life really is.  What Josh, Barry and the entire NYBKW firm are doing is really something special. I hope to see you there… Your gift will mean a lot to someone in need! ------------------------- Hilary JM Topper, MPA is the President/CEO of HJMT Public Relations, Inc.
